I just finished the book The White Tiger by Aravind Adiga and it was fascinating. A look at the progressive madness that is servitude. Beautifully written with wry and astute observations on class, caste and “modern day” India. A more gruesome Robin Hood-esque tale of today’s globalized society.
In a shameful act of bowing to pressure that has no bearing whatsoever on their mission, Susan G. Komen has ceased funding for Planned Parenthood and the breast cancer screenings and education programming to women in need. As someone who’s lost a loved one to breast cancer and who has actively participated in (and fundraised for) the Race for the Cure for more than 13 years, I am saddened to have to withdraw my support until Komen reverses this decision. Abortion has no bearing on Komen - hide as they might behind the fact that Planned Parenthood is being investigated. I thought the pink buckets of Kentucky Fried Chicken damaged their brand but this is a new low. Susan G. Komen now needs to regroup and refocus on the mission that I’ve long felt they had strayed from: helping prevent and cure breast cancer. Period.
